Questions about the listening tests
Frequently asked questions
What is in each OET Listening mock test?+
Each test has 42 questions in the format of the OET Listening sub-test: Part A with two consultations and 24 note-completion gaps, Part B with six short workplace recordings, and Part C with two longer recordings and 12 questions. There are ten recordings in each test.
Who is speaking on the recordings?+
The recordings are our own, made from original scripts with clear computer-generated voices, two female and two male. They are not recordings from OET, and the accents are less varied than in the real test.
Are these real OET papers?+
No. Every script and question is original and written by our team for practice. They are not past papers or recalled questions, and they are not produced or endorsed by OET.
How is the test marked?+
It is marked automatically when you hand it in. You see your marks out of 42, by part and by question type, with an explanation for every question that quotes what was said. Typed answers in Part A must be spelled correctly.
Will the result tell me my OET grade?+
It gives an estimate only. OET says candidates awarded Grade B typically achieve at least 30 marks out of 42. A practice test is not an OET paper and real papers vary in difficulty, so treat your mark as a guide.
Can I replay a recording?+
The player lets you, but in the test each recording is heard once. Play each one once on your first sitting. You can sit a test again as often as you like, and every sitting is kept on your page.
OET Writing Correction is an independent preparation service. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by OET or Cambridge Boxhill Language Assessment. These are original practice tests with our own recordings, not OET papers, and a practice mark is not an official OET result.
