OET Writing Quiz: which criterion is costing you marks?
OET Writing is marked on six criteria, and most candidates lose marks on one or two of them. These ten questions put you in front of the decisions that separate a Grade B letter from a Grade C+ letter.
In short
- Ten multiple-choice questions, each tied to one of the six OET Writing criteria.
- Your total is shown at once. Your result on each criterion follows after an email.
- It checks what you know, not how you write under time. Only a marked letter shows that.
Question 1 of 10
Which opening best protects the Purpose mark in an urgent referral?
What the quiz covers
The six criteria have been used since August 2018 and Purpose is scored 0 to 3 while the other five are scored 0 to 7. A Grade B is 350 to 440 on the 0 to 500 scale.
| Criterion | Marked | What it asks | Questions |

| Content | 0 to 7 | Is the right information selected, and is it accurate? | 2 |
| Conciseness & Clarity | 0 to 7 | Is anything there that the reader cannot use? | 2 |
